About Shergarh Fort

Shergarh Fort is a historic hill fort located on the Kaimur plateau, standing at an elevation of approximately 800 feet above sea level.

Built between 1540 and 1545, the origins of the fort remain a mystery. While many believe it was constructed by Emperor Sher Shah Suri during his reign, some historians suggest it was originally built by the Kharwar rulers and later captured by Sher Shah Suri around 1530.

The fort is known for its unique architectural elements. The main entrance once featured eight small domes, although only five remain today, reflecting the passage of time and history.

Located about 39.6 km from Sasaram, Shergarh Fort offers a peaceful and less crowded historical experience with scenic surroundings and rich heritage.
